では vs. でわ YUI writes では but HISASHI and whoever writes the staff diaries (Icchii☆-san? Shiba-chan?) writes でわ see: http://okwave.jp/qa/q115856.html discuz. I truly prefer 「こんにちは」 over 「こんにちわ」 though. |

what I could point from "ano" website is : according to comment on that website, 1. we type [でわでわ] because it's more simple to type with QWERTY keyboard, because with just left hand we can type [でわでわ] faster that 「ではでは」 because we need to type with left hand and right hand. 2. it's kind of [言葉遊び] (playing word). 3. I think this is about "bunpo" (grammar), if we take an example like [それでは]、 「で」is 助動詞の連用形 (conjuctive form of auxiliary verb),and 「は」 is 格助詞 (case- making particle). In the modern kana usage rule in Japan, the particle [は] we write it also with [は], so [ではでは] is legitimate way of writing. Some people write it in [でわでわ] because the pronounciation from [ではでは] is 「でわでわ」 (dewadewa). In the matter of this pronounciation, some people also write [ではでは] with 「であであ」 -Konnichiwa is combined from 名詞「今日」(noun of today (konni or we also can read it "kyou")) and 助詞「は」 (particle (ha/wa). And people write it in 「こんにちわ」 or 「こんばんわ」 despite 「こんばんは」 have the same reason with 「ではでは」 from point 1-3. -But in the formal document we should use [ではでは] 「こんにちは」 「こんばんは」 despite 「でわでわ」「こんにちわ」「こんばんわ」 -conclusion, in this matter of 「は」or「わ」, it will be back to each person who use it. In fact some japanese use [でわでわ] because there are people who mistaken read 「ではでは」 with DEHA DEHA not DEWA DEWA especially 外人(foreigner). So, it's up to you which one you choose 「ではでは」「でわでわ」or「であであ」。 「こんにちは」「こんばんは」or「こんにちわ」「こんばんわ」. I hope you understand this with my poor english explanation :P |

I think that just to shorten word and shorten pronounciation. 「こんにちは」-> 「こんちは」 konnichiwa -> konchiwa or even when I saw a japanese dorama they also say konnichiwa with just kon or kon kon. Ohayou to just oha. |
