My Mother doesn't care much of what I listen to. It's teachers and my classmates that questions me. They always ask "Do you even know what it mean?" and I say "Someday I will" They will keep on asking ==" I enjoy YUI's creativity and how meaningful her songs are from the help of YL. |

No one really questions why I like listening to YUI's songs. My sister, who is the person more likely to do so listened to a few of her songs and liked it. My parents are amused when they discovered ym fandom and didn't seem to mind a bit. Basically everyone around me understood that I have my own taste for music, though they may wonder why I like listening to songs I don't understand (I don't really know... just maybe they do). But if you think about the songs we usually hear on the radio, there are lots of songs that got popular that we cannot understand (I don't even know if the lyrics are from a human language. I don't know the title of the song I'm thinking of as an example). If you think about it, YUI's songs sound easier to the ear than most other songs of our time. Would they like it if we listen to heavy metal at full blast? |

It sounds like he simply does not respect your taste in music. My family doesn't seem to be bothered much about my music preferences. Hell they even like some of the music I listen to i.e. The Beatles. There was once, though, where my mum imitated the song I was listening to (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUkBw7jXrJQ&fmt=18). Hohohoho! Luckily my parents wont stop or discourage me listen to YUI's song or even J-Music. my sister also listen to SOME YUI songs like , tokyo , GBD , IRY. But my family members will disturb me sometimes like "Hey , is this your girlfriend?" I would tell them " How I wish!" haha!! |

hm...wow never would've thought that something like listening to J-music could cause that much friction between family members ... I can understand the whole history part with china + japan..it's probably pretty difficult for that generation to accept their children becoming influenced by popular japanese media. ....unfortunately they may seem a bit over the top in our eyes but we should still respect them because they have a strong reason to feel that way...in today's generation we're more open-minded and we never felt the direct experience of what had happened in history...so we might just have to tone down the enthusiasm of Jpop/YUI in front of them...but hey at heart we're still die-hard fans! Yea my friends know that i'm a YUI-fanatic ...most of them can recognize YUI songs now b/c i'm always the driver and they hear most of her songs haha..some of them even sing along to it! ...my friend came over the other day and we were working on a prj for a while and she jsut commented.."omg i just realized there are so many YUI faces looking at me..i'm getting kinda creeped out!" then i laughed ...i can see why she could comment that cuz it's a bit overwhelming..I've taken down a few posters now cuz i realized my room was being filled with EVERYTHING not just YUI but i had no wall space and it jsut felt too cluttered But yea you can't convince other people to like YUI's music or any other artist because they have different tastes/likes...at most we can share why we like them and if they respond in a way that we aren't expecting then...just leave it at that...they're entitled to their own opinions, though some can be really narrow-minded.....so just love what you love because that's what make you happy...! i find it funny that I'm Chinese and i'll be listening to Jpn + Krn songs when i dont even understand the languages either! my dad asked me before while i was watching japanese anime or a drama..if i understood...and i said nope~ ..kinda sucks that after watching like 4-5 years of japanese things..that I haven't really learned the language yet... But my family's okay with me Asian media but i think my mom would rather have me watch Chinese things so i can learn mandarin ha! My friends are the ones that notice the YUI-obsessive the most and make their comments but they respect me and what i like so i in turn take the time to learn about their fav things and why by showing interest |

Who cares about anyone says about your taste of music? If YUI'S music makes you happy then it doesnt matter if someone else likes it or not . I mean you cant expect other people to appreciate the things you like every time. All of us have individual choices when it comes to music.. I had that same case before but I just ignore them and now they couldnt do anything about it..Just ignore your dad. He'll get used to it. Especially when he sees that it really makes you happy then maybe he wont bother you anymore.. Just look at the bright side!Atleast we have this forum and you're a part of it. And now we all share our love with YUI's music. 'Birds of the same feather, flock together' as they would say.. |

My parents don't really care of what I listen to, but my brother often question about J-music in general -not only YUI but almost XD- Last time that he asked me polemically "Why do you listen to her? You can't understand a thing!" I smiled at him and said: "And so? You can't understand english almost at all, but you keep listen to american singer, don't you?" He couldn't respond ^^ By the way, Rui, ignore your father or, at least, remind him that evryone have their own taste in evrything, including music. And, if the problem are the lirycs... well, internet exist also for that, don't it? You can always find here the translations you need, as well as other's YUI's fans who you can talk to. :3 |

I feel the same way too....but I play YUI's songs when no ones around...my mom comes home around 8 in the evening and my father works abroad...so when I come home from school I play YUI's songs so loud that the whole neighborhood could hear it..and Japanese is not our language in the Philippines...though they won't understand I don't care!!!hahaha...I agree with Elrinz, music itself is a form of language,actually I think it is the universal language..^_^.... |

My family reaaally doesn't care about what I'm listening... but they just don't understand why I listen songs in a language so distant from portuguese... besides I do not understand even a little of japanese... My mom only complains when I'm listening the songs so loud that I don't hear when she calls me :sry It's funny when my brother tries to sing along... he's only six... sometimes I swear he actually says one word or two :rolleye I've tried to make my friends to hear YUI's songs, but I failed :what My boyfriend keeps annoying me about it, but just for fun :YUIFace Anyway, don't give up! :good |

well my brother and i listen to j-music (he's my influence) so there is no problem with him or my other siblings (were are 5 kids in total, so many!) my dad doesn't really care as long as we don't disturb him but he makes fun of all the things we listen to or hear but thats him. as for my mom, i once showed her one of Ikimono Gakari's song and she said it was cute. but i don't really tell her how i love yui and japanese music cause then she"ll say "you give all your time to those stuff bu tyou won't spend one day in church or or give one second to god" believe me she'll go on forever about god. i've learned not to ask her stuff related to supernatural, religious, or anything that will lead her to her favorite topic. even talking about childhood will somehow end up in god. i have to be real cautios! |

My family don't bother on what im listening to...but last weeek my sister say that she wonder if im actually a lesbian since im listen to YUI song every day for almost 2 years. She said that im supposed to like group like TVXQ, Big Bang ,Suju etc. I even buy YUI CD when she know Im a cheapskate type of person... |

Woah if my sister said that to me I totally will get mad at her. I'm just like you, a girl, I'm obsessed with YUI but I don't like Kpop at all or boybands. I just don't like group singers I guess. my dad really hates yui songs or any j-pop songs.. he seems to be so irritated about it :rolleye there was one time that i play and sing yui's song with my guitar, and my dad yelled that he'll crash my guitar in my head if i woudn't stop playing that.. :shock i find it weird.. maybe he also find it weird when i used to play j-pop songs specially yui's. @@ |
