Industrial Metal; Call it techno-metal, or cyber-metal, but what really is industrial metal?

Anybody knows what is industrial metal?

If any of you have played the Command & Conquer video games(esp. Red Alert series), then you will know what is industrial metal.

Industrial metal is indeed a mixture of techno and metal. Heavy riffs, sampling, techno effects and distorted vocals is what made industrial metal its style.

Who are the bands/musicians that play using this style?

1. The Kovenant(my favorite!!)

2. Red Harvest

3. Rammstein

4. Mushroomhead

5. KMFDM

6. Fear Factory

7. Samael

8. Frank Klepacki(the composer of the songs from the Red Alert series!!)

These are the only ones I know. If any of you know more of these bands/musicians, please express yourselves.

Let's also persuade Comrade YUI to try this style for herself. I think this will suit her. Along with Comrades Aya Hirano, Eugene Kim, Kim Tae-hee, Lee Da-hae and Mayuko Fukuda. They should form a band playing industrial metal!!

YUI IS ALL (to me)

I've heard some of those bands thanks to my brother. But he doesn't seem to conciliate his style of music with YUI at all.

Neither do I.

Don't mix fish with red wine. Both are good but keep'em apart. :good

I think industrial metal is 'noisy' metal. Lots of electronic distortions.

I listen more to industrial rock, not metal. Well, Trent Reznor.

Industrial Metal. The genre where hell lotsa bands got into trouble for racism and wicked lyrics.

There's no need to list more, in the 7 bands listed above, at least 2 of them were already considered racist bands.

Well, not my prob though. What matters the most is the music. IMO.

I Love YUI

I'm picturing YUI with white face paint, black lipstick, a red tear painted on a cheek and spiked-out hair that hasn't been washed in two weeks.......

Hmmmm......Nope, doesn't work. @@

My understanding is that industrial metal is an outgrowth of techno and thrash metal, and adopts some of industrial music sounds. Industrial music started out as repetetive sounds (noises?) like the clanking of a steel press or an automatic riveter incorporated into the rhythm track of dense, plodding, often disonant, music, and was used as a statement on modern culture to express frustration, anger, or rage.

The repetetive nature of it attracts techno artists, who generally build up their songs this way, and as a strange result it ends up as almost a type of dance music....it is usually strict 4x4 time with the songs building in multiples of four....four measures to the phrase, four phrases to the phrase set, four phrase sets to the verse......repeat. (four times...or eight, or sixteen, or thirty-two)

If you even just look at the poses of the bands in your pictures, one thing should jump out at you....these guys are far more about posturing than content! "I'm the baddest" "NO, we're badder yet, look we brought blood in a baggy to drip around the stage..." "WOW DUDE! TOO COOL!"

And with the marriage of this electronica method and thrash attitude using industrial sound samples, you get this genre. But really, most of the lines between these types of genres are so wide and grey that it is often pointless to try to pigeon hole particular bands...

Is Nine inch Nails industrial metal, post-punk, electronica, or just heavy dance music??? Same with Marilyn Manson and White Zombie.

I think really the one thing that is consistent about it is that it appeals to that primal instinct of young guys...."MUST REBEL, MUST REBEL!!!"....it's frustrated and angry and in your face....So why do I still like it sometimes?

Or....were you really just asking about this....

Take note:

The Kovenant doesn't have thrash metal influences. It is actually a former black metal band before it became Industrial Metal.
