I'm Hong Kong chinese, born in HK but live in Aus and EPIC FAIL in canto and I came to Aus when I was 6!
I can listen to some canto and speak abit but I have a horrible eng accent when i speak chinese and also I have issues forming sentences in chinese without english words in it so i tend not to speak it when i goto HK unless absoultely necessary!
so I mostly speak english to my parents and they reply in chinese and I speak half half to my relatives in HK even to my gran but she gets it cause I think she realised that theres no hope for me and she just has to learn eng instead LOL

on the literacy side
I can read VERY basic things like boy girl, small big etc
I can mainly guess read food related words cause usually the only times I look at chinese words is in asian restaurants LOL and then i guess them.
writing is prob non existant prob can only write to a kindergarten standard LOL
so i dont think it counts XD

Malaysian chinaman checking in. In Hokkien dialect we're called chee-nugget. Strangely, I understand more Japanese than my mutha-tung [mother tongue, for those who don't fly with gangsta spelling].

I really regret when I was kid I never learn Chinese properly.. Now I'm suffering since I love some Chinese artists, I can't understand what they said in interview or live performance :cry
