hey guys,i just wanted to ask something. :sry uhmm..is it natural that when you used to play the guitar, the skin of your fingers would just harden and peeled off? how long would it occur?? would it just stop peeling if you just continue to play guitar?? i'm a beginner so i'm not that aware.. :sry i hope someone would reply.. thanks! :good |

if you're playing a string guitar rather than a nylon guitar, then you would expect to have those for the rest of you life!!! joke2 I don't know how long fingers will be like that, but you'll get used to it eventually. But yes, to answer you question, it is normal to have those on your fingers. From what I heard, if you play string guitars, you'll have blisters most of the time. For beginners, it is recommended to play nylon guitars first, then if you're getting better, change into string guitars. Some guitarist even realized that their left hand nails are shorter than their right hand nails, maybe it's the effect of playing guitar, or they're born with it. So I guess, "NO PAIN NO GAIN!" btw, using skin moisturizer will help. I recommend Jergens. |

well, im proud of my callouses. :P and yes! my left hand nails r shorter than my right hand nails.. coz i'll alwayz keep them short for easier fretting... to answer your question, harden n peeling of skins or blistering will only happen in say, the first 2 to 3 weeks of guitar playing.. it will then developed into callouses and that will make fretting a hell lot easier... |

For me,if i dun play for say a month or more and i start playing again,my fingers will peel, hardened or not.The tips still stay hard, but the outer skin peels. That's in my case. And yeah,i'm proud of my hard fingertips too! :clap And i clip both of my hands' fingernails every time,so....They're equal length on both hands.Lol. |

Like it or not, your skin is gonna keep peeling off for as long as you play guitar. |

Yup, you should be proud of it if you get callouses. Shows that you're hardworking. :P But it's not true when people say it's 'easier' to start with nylon stringed guitars. BOTH steel and nylon stringed guitars have their pros and cons. The steel ones are harder and more painful but it'll train your hand to get used to the tension while the nylon ones have a larger and wider fretboard, the necks are fatter so it trains your strength (something like that). It's good if you can have both kinds of guitar. Off topic: Fretless bass are soooo cool. |

i'm proud of mine too! ><" anyway, peeling of skins on your fingers only occurs like around 2 to 3 weeks, like what natchi says and it also depends on how "hardworking" are you~ :good hope that helps @@ |

Nope I don't have it even though I've been playing for 5 years. I guess it depends on the way you play. I think. I keep hearing people complain about that when I was just starting out so I was a bit frightened by that but I didn't get those hard calluoses at the side of my fingers at all. Still feels the same. Maybe it's because I don't play barre as often? Or maybe it's because I don't drag my finger when I switch chords. Posted Image |

Yup, it's part of the game to have your finger tips harden..... they will start off with creases, which then harden and peel. I started off straight away with steel string acoustic.... Consider the scarring a badge of honour... maybe not the same level as 50 Cent's gunshot wounds, but still a symptom of hard work. |

a very good moisturiser helps alot with the skin peeling my skin tends to peel whilst playing =[ so right after you practice just cream it up and itll help with the pain :D but downside is loss of sense of touch in finger tips a bit D: |

After u play guitar for about 6-12 months ur fingers grow calluses which makes the tips stronger and the skin will no longer peel. Just deal with the initial pain/annoyance and soon you will have much stronger fingers to help you solo, play chords and even finger tap |

Wanna know the difference, just compare your right hand's fingertips and your left. I've been playing guitar for 5 years, i don't have any blisters or skin peeling stuff. I'm a guitar teacher now, most of my new students complain about that :rolleye So i think it mostly happens for 1month or so. Depending how hardworking you are :hee |

@sakuraich If start with classical guitar first, it would be a good choice cause classical you will be learning all the basic's of music. BUT, if you want to play strumming or electric guitar (lead solo's)later on, it's gonna be hard moving from classical :sry Best if you start strumming and classic all together :good After when you can handle both fairly, it's time to have fun with an electric guitar :hee |

YUI + guitar = <3
![]()

If you do a lot of sliding work (sliding up and down the fretboard, like in YUI's LIFE), well-oiled strings should help prevent blisters cos it reduces the friction. guitar shops should sell them, it helps prolong the lifetime of the strings as well (prevents rust). i'm using FastFret, but i guess any others will do the trick as well :) another way of course would be to play awhile, then once u feel your fingers hurtin, take a break before playing again |
