So, what books are you reading and what's your opinion about them? I just finished 'Sekai no chushin de ai wo sakebu' or 'dream-island' by Kyoichi Katayama. It's a really good book =P |

I just ordered A Wild Sheep Chase and Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami seeing that they're the two novels by Murakami that I've been wanting to read for some time. But right now I'm reading Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder and some philosophy textbooks for my own independent studies. I had to order two Twilight books for a neighbor and because I'm not into mainstream things--so it's not just Twilight--I've held a biased opinion on anything that is overrated. I guess I'll have to see what this craze is about. And yes my neighbor is a pre-teen. It explains a lot because the book I believe is aimed at pre-teenager girls and the like. But yeah, I'm going to check out the Twilight books once they arrive. I'll do it before diving into my Murakami novels. |

Here's something really crazy: I read Goblet of Fire like, 20 times! (I was that crazy!) =O I read mostly Harry Potter and Christopher Paolini, ie. Eragon, Eldest and Brisingr. My current fave book is 'Reality Check' by A.M Goldstien. A really witty book. I also read 'Falling Leaves' by Adeline Yen-Mah. A really sad book. It's based on her true life experience. It makes me wake up to the stark reality of life. |

I finished reading Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen at three in the morning today and moving onto my Murakami novels. I guess I was being too harsh on the Twilight series. I was just too critical. But then that's the thing with writing and any form of "art" that is given exposure. They depend on viewers and audience but also critics. It's not an easy road and I have empathy for any writer as I'm a writer myself. People begin to criticize you if you seem to be corrupting the youth or presenting unethical and questionable ideas in your book(s). I just feel like some people think it's so easy to write a book that they talk so much but in reality they themselves have no idea what the writer went through or what it takes to write a book. And then there are those writers who get overrated because they have that access to the public so anything they write already has a higher chance of success. (I don't quite look up to writers who write for a deadline.) I start to wonder if a writer who receives the title "good" produces not a book but a good book everytime he or she writes. What is a good writer? Maybe I'm ignorant but can someone tell me? Do we immediately assume the role of an entertainer when we become a writer? Oh . . . I guess we do because they're "paying" us and therefore we're obligated to satisfy them but is it not a category mismatch to throw this satisfaction role on a mere single individual? What are they looking for? Seriously, I sometimes think that some people do not realize that the author of a book is not the plunderer of their entertainment if they don't enjoy the book, it's rather the opposite. So don't push all that responsibility and liability on a poor individual. Maybe it's just me and maybe I'm just overreacting but I can't help but feel so disgusted towards human beings when this happens. It's almost as if we're craving for the best in everything we take and will not take less than "perfect." Just look at the "appetite" of some people and see what I mean. Whatever happened to temperance and self-discipline? |

@virilubluv: Oh I recall hearing about this book in a writing workshop I attended. I went to the library to find it but it was already checked out. I tried a few more times but to no avail. I'll try again as I hear this book is a true story that will touch us all. |

the book i've recently read was "silent love" by writer6. i don't know why was the name of the writer was just like that, but i like the story.. really inspiring and magnificent.. coherent and easy to understand..its not like the other books/novels that the story becomes confusing..i just like how writer6 wrote the story that you would enjoy reading it and you wouldn't be bored in any of the part of the story..:D |
