J-Pop Vs. K-Pop
« Reply #15 on: April 20, 2012, 03:10:02 AM »
Sorry CHU, I dont like Q&A, So I will give me own answer!

Well for me, K-pop is more like over rated, they dont have good music, lyrics wise, certain artist actually have good lyrics maybe not like SNSD, Big Bang etc etc......
As far of what I know, The Korean Government is using them to help the economic of the country and also lending them money to promote themselves. Which makes me think, they are more of money making tools then making real music....... What artist do is just practice and practice till perfection~
People around me makes me think that K-pop are bullshit. Like from stalker vans to entering their used hotel room and start rolling on their bed.... Makes me feel so digusted... *puke*
also, I dont like people dancing infront of me if they are made of maybe 30% plastic. ~

I hope my comments dont hurt any k-pop fans we have around here~ these were merely my opinion~ :) I apologize for it if they offended you~ D:

http://blogs.ft.com/beyond-brics/2012/09/14/korean-pop-star-conquers-us-gangnam-style/#axzz273D6oA9e

My friend tell me to watch Gangnam style on Yutub...
and i watch it, look at its view numbers, and almost cry immediatly

I dont know how world trend can move on to sumthing this ****ed up. Its not about his popularity or about K-Pop beat J-Pop to its death or else. This is about human sense to distinguish what is good, and what is bad, which one can build your soul, and which one can destroy your soul.

edited
well, im doing some research, and know about its meaning. its a lil bit satiric, so maybe yeah, i forgive him ...  just a little  =P
but i think 80% of ppl that watch and like it just know the dance and dunno the song meaning ...

For the CHU's question:

o1. Do you like J-Pop and / or K-Pop?
J-pop

o2. What do you think of K-Pop?
They are famous now, in all over the world. But Im afraid K-Pop digging its own grave now, slowly, painfully ...
And I just hope they not drag asian music and j-music along with them to hell ,

o3. Do you see J-Pop and K-Pop in the same way?
No, in J-Pop i find some singers that have real voice, real song, real music. I dont know much about K-Pop, but its frontrunners/ most popular singers seems not sell real voice, real song, and real music that I search ...

o4. Do you understand and agree with the system of the K-Pop industry?
Dunno and dont care

5a. How do you feel about the K-Pop industry and how its popularity has risen over the past few years?
Sick of it.

5b. Do you think K-Pop's popularity will stick around for long?
Dunno,

o6. Do you think J-Pop is losing its way?
Sadly, yes.

o7. How do you feel about K-Pop artists promoting in Japan and the US?

Its normal, Its the way of Globalization dan Economic ...

o8. What things would you like to see different in both industries?
J-Music, some kind of magic in marketing technique to make people over the world realize that many good singers maybe they never hear in Japan
K-Music, some kind of magic to help some songwriters there to write meaningful songs and become popular (And dont say this Gangnam meaningful, it even promotes what it wanna criticize)

I know, for now, K-Pop is more popular, but as you all know everything has lover and hater. in my opinion, both of them can grow together although it's quite different. we must keep to support J-Pop and YUI! No doubt about that. everything have a weak point and good point.  :YUIFace

J-Pop Vs. K-Pop
« Reply #18 on: August 15, 2013, 10:58:23 AM »
Short answer:J-Pop

K-Pop sucks dick
It's just like American Pop but with Koreans and even trying to be more outrageous...it sucks

K-Pop vs AKB48/Morning Musume would be a more fair comparison for K-Pop
K-Pop wins here cuz atleast they don't sexualize 13 year old girls
Quote from: "gotchi"
was it like this back in the 90s in North America/World with the Spice Girls/Backstreet boys/NSYNC? cos i loved them...until i grew out of it....but really those songs are the best to sing along to haha...
It certainly was

Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys sucked. They're among the worst "musicians" America has to offer...right up there with Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga
They are/were the definition of Commercialism
Don't forget Madonna and Britney Spears

MJ is one of the few artists I can think that was ridiculously Commercialized but provided Amazing Quality Music
Quote from: "asuna"
In fact I feel J-pop back then when it just started becoming popular was similar to K-pop now
Wrong.
The late Izumi Sakai started out in the '90s and she still was better than most J-Vocalists nowadays
And then there's people like for example X-Japan,Buck-Tick,Color the great Nujabes and Underrated People(I feel they are...dunno) like Field of View,Hironobu Kageyama,Masami Okui,Megumi Hayashibara,Doom etc. can't remember all of them
If anything I think J-Pop(or rather Japanese Music in general) was better then and less commercialized...and many Japanese Artists have been pessimistic about the Japanese Music industry lately

'80s and '90s was probably J-Music at it's peak in general
In the 2000s i feel it started to get mainstream cuz of Anime getting popular in the West and kinda declined...still it wasn't bad and it isn't bad now it's pretty good but playing it very safe but atleast they never went full retard like American Music did in the 2000s which they have not been able to recover from that and I doubt they recover soon

Still struggle to find myself excited for new Japanese Musicians...
Quote from: "Kikino!"
I'm no gonna read any of those replies cos they are so long and I so don't care about this discussion. LOL

1.- 90% no.

2.- Serious business. Shit music just like almost all the pop music in the world in this decade.

3.-
Jpop: From AKB48 to YUI, with one million variatios in the middle.
K-pop: I can only think of boy and girl groups dancing erotically.

4.- As far as I know, It's mainly a producer doing business. Kids get shit to buy, girls get attention, producers get money. Awesome. The ones who lose: Artists. lol

5a.- It's the reflection of the society, fast paced and shallow.

5b.- Probably will stay, as the society keeps getting more and more stupid.

6.- Quality-wise probably yes, I don't know any new pop singers with the level that Namie Amuro or Utada Hikaru had  5 years ago.

7.- They really don't sell THAT much in Japan anyway, do they?

8.- In Japan I would like to see less kids posing in bikini and more kids focusing on making music. I would also like to see YUI quiting Sony and starting her own label. LOL
In korea... anything that is not the same formula repeated over and over... where are the BoA' and the Younhas!!

Man you hit the nail in the head...100% correct
Now Japanese Music is going downhill too...as if America going full retard by late '90s wasn't enough damage to Music enough

Music is going downhill really fast just like the Film Industry...cuz greedy scumbags only care about money nowadays

First the Film Industry,Now the Music one...I hope the Video Game Industry doesn't get ruined too..cuz man that will be a depressing world...devoid of quality enteretainment :(

EDIT:Also for K-Pop I don't think it'll never be that popular internationally let alone crack the Western Market. The whole Gangam Style shit is just a fad that will soon be over...like Myspace.I mean think about it...only reason Gangnam Style got the most views in youtube ever is cuz people wanted to see the video reach a Billion Views and beat Justin F*****'s (no need to be rude now) Highest Viewed Vid

Typical Americans won't care about K-Pop if Koreans decide to go to America...and they will utterly fail...just like BoA did

Only Asian who had potential to do something in America was Utada...but she tried too hard to please the mainstream and she failed. If she did her own thing she might have atleast gotten a large cult following.I mean her first (English)Album "Precious" makes "Exodus" and "This is the One" look like dogshit

01. Jpop :clap

02. Gay :rolleye

03. No :sayw

04. I don't understand with their system :what

5a. I feel frustrated because fangirls are everywhere with their annoying attitudes..and said the Korean boy band member is their husband... :what

Korean knows how to promote their artists, that's why. If they don't have YouTube account etc. and promoting in Japan, no one would recognize kpop.

5b. Don't want to admit it... :angry

o6. F@#$%^&*, of course no! :angry

o1. Do you like J-Pop and / or K-Pop?
- Both (Why both? 'cos i really love Younha, 2NE1, Wonder Girls, BoA, WINNER & GG. So that's why both ^_^ and yeah most of them i really dont like the K-Pop boy/girl group)
o2. What do you think of K-Pop?
- Cool. Upbeat and catchy music. (But i think some of the K-Pop Artist is becoming a strippers like western music? Just my opinion guys).
o3. Do you see J-Pop and K-Pop in the same way?
- I think yes 'cos K-Pop and J-Pop become ''pole dancers''. (I am not a hater of J-Pop idol group but i saw AKB wearing ''bikinis''. Don't offend on me).
o4. Do you understand and agree with the system of the K-Pop industry?
- Slightly? dunno
5a. How do you feel about the K-Pop industry and how its popularity has risen over the past few years?
The popularity of K-Pop is still very strong...
5b. Do you think K-Pop's popularity will stick around for long?

I  nearly hate this discussion about the better genre but both r music....and our own opinion

o1. Do you like J-Pop and / or K-Pop?

Its obvious J-Pop .But I did like Younha, but that was all

o2. What do you think of K-Pop?

Toooooo comercial. It just dance  and group oriented. With all the dance you sometimes feel that music has been lost somewhere

o3. Do you see J-Pop and K-Pop in the same way?
As Kiki said its just a producer doing business.you donot get real artists anymore mostly nowadays

o4. Do you understand and agree with the system of the K-Pop industry?

I do not understand anything about it.I absolutely hate their training camps-its good to practice, but training sounds harsh.
I am also against the groups stategy-but Japan is also doing it nowadays groups will end up having 300 members. It has been days since I followed K-pop but I know the promotion is good, well better than Sony and stardust.....

5a. How do you feel about the K-Pop industry and how its popularity has risen over the past few years?

Its still not popular as J-pop.It came to light just a few years ago any ways. They r mainly popular because of the number of fan clubs, which absolutely cannot even hear healthy criticism of the artist

5b. Do you think K-Pop's popularity will stick around for long?

They will have their fall from grace in about 3 to 5 years

There was time I started hating J-pop,and started following k-pop,but one month I became bored of it and came back to hear J-music.The k-pop songs r catchy, but they wear down on you soon.My personal opinion is that they have absolutely no lyrical meaning and the songs r repetitive

o6. Do you think J-Pop is losing its way?

Well-its surely declining, they have a few great artists left but thats it.they r paying a price for their idol group strategy and the hallyu wave may not have much to do with it.J-pop enjoyed mainstream popularity due to anime, and anime quality is declining.J-pop has no Hiki nowadays, but I can give the benefit of doubt that its going to come back bigger than ever.but some people r still pessimistic

o7. How do you feel about K-Pop artists promoting in Japan and the US?
it doesnot work in Japan ,why do they not go to USA alone
o8. What things would you like to see different in both industries?

More attention on pure music,no over the top dancing and commerciality

o1. Do you like J-Pop and / or K-Pop?
I used to listen to K-Pop but since it's getting mainstream and monotone I stopped

o2. What do you think of K-Pop?
It's all about money, money, money~

o3. Do you see J-Pop and K-Pop in the same way?
it was getting closer nowadays. J-Pop (esp major) is getting more business than art recently.
that's why I start to listen some doujin music and new artist from small label for now

o4. Do you understand and agree with the system of the K-Pop industry?
I could understand but I can't agree withe their way to do business in music industry.

5a. How do you feel about the K-Pop industry and how its popularity has risen over the past few years?
I stop caring about this since I stopped listening to K-Pop LOL

5b. Do you think K-Pop's popularity will stick around for long?
maybe at least for the next 3 years

o6. Do you think J-Pop is losing its way?
In some way... YES!
Some artist (esp idol) start doing the business just like how K-Pop do. It just getting to much mainstream genre.
As I said start listening to doujin or new artist from small label music and you'll fell better XD

o7. How do you feel about K-Pop artists promoting in Japan and the US?
It's their business and I don't care. But I'll care if it was give some impact on my fav artist CD's rank

o8. What things would you like to see different in both industries?
J-Pop: just bring back band and soloist era again
K-Pop: stop doing to much autotune in every songs

I know it's an old thread but I just recently learned about kpop so I wanna answer :D

o1. Do you like J-Pop and / or K-Pop?
I like both

o2. What do you think of K-Pop?
Very entertaining!

o3. Do you see J-Pop and K-Pop in the same way?
No. J-pop has a special place in my heart, it's part of my childhood and when I listen to it, it brings back memories (lol so dramatic). Kpop is a new thing to me.
I used to dislike EDM-ish or anything really upbeat and super catchy music, I didn't get why people even like it. At that time I only listen to music to relax, laying in my bed or on a ride with my headset on while reading the lyric translation or just thinking about anything else. But then as I get older I experienced stuff like going to live concert and going to karaokes which I thought I'd hate, but turns out to enjoy. Then I learned that music can also be about fun and entertainment, and I think that's how I started to like kpop (and some japan idol group).
Then I learned that kpop is not always that kind of music anyway, it still varies but not as much as jpop.

o4. Do you understand and agree with the system of the K-Pop industry?
Don't really understand... all I heard is some boy groups are trained for a pretty long time before debut, kinda like Johnny's system. But they are given more freedom in terms of music and personal life compared to Johnny's. So I agree with that part.

5a. How do you feel about the K-Pop industry and how its popularity has risen over the past few years?
I think they deserve it because they're really intense and always wanna make sure the fans are excited.

5b. Do you think K-Pop's popularity will stick around for long?
I think so~ they make really loyal fans.

o6. Do you think J-Pop is losing its way?
I don't know. In international market, maybe yes. But I believe they still has many good artists although the chart are always topped with so-so idols (which I am a fan of lol).

o7. How do you feel about K-Pop artists promoting in Japan and the US?
It's normal for them to to that since Japanese is a big market for idol groups and US is like many artist's goal.

o8. What things would you like to see different in both industries?
For jpop I'd like to see them notice international fans more.
For kpop I'd like to hear a good, non visual band. I mean not boy/girl band but ones that play music instrument.
